in terms of film(s):

House of Flying Daggers - Very pretty and somewhat heartwrenching but tried to do too much by hinting at all the importance of these crazy plans that never are explained, carried out or led to fruition. Also the bit at the end (spoiler mark goofs) where mister lau was exposed as being a double agent was sort of weak... what was the point in deceiving the other guy about mister lau if they're just going to kill him anyhow? Lot of logical flaws and holes in the story that really didn't have to be there.

Napoleon Dynamite - YOU IDIOTS! YOU'RE RUINING MY LIFE. Vote Pedo. Yeah I liked that goofy movie.

Meet the Parents - Still makes me feel tense. Poor Gaylord.

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou - I quite liked its witticisms. I'm not sure if I like it as much as the rest of the Wes collection but then again I usually didn't care for his films as much until the second viewing. For some reason his films seem to give me a lot more the second time around.

I've uploaded 32 gigs in the past month and a half. Telus, bless your oblivious heart.

in terms of drama:

You're all dumb. Fix it!

in terms of fun:

Birthday party was swell. I like how when I greeted Cody at the door Josh came reeling to the top of the staircase and then gurgled gibberish while desperately trying to cling to a handful of peanuts. Josh was our little drunken party clown for the night <3. He managed to make a wonderful impression on my chink friend jason and julie the boo impersonator. It was great to see everyone having a fun time together! Hadn't had that experience for a while. Thanks to Ruby and Gar for their thoughtful gifts... you guys own (and so does anyone else who was involved in it that wasn't brought to my attention). The cleanup was even easier than I expected which is always a plus.

New Years I went to Cody's briefly. They have a nice media room in the basement which is seperated from someone's room by a strung up curtain. I tried to watch and listen to the TV more than watch the bouncing shapes and listen to the squishy noises. I'm not sure how well I succeeded. Cody has a cute cat. The rest of the evening was spent with Cheryl's folks as it was her birthday wish.

Had a fun time hanging out with John, Shaun and Nanami. They're all good and nice. My bowling skills have taken a serious nosedive... I hope to pull them up soon. Hopefully I'll get to hang with them again once more before Nanami splits and Shaun's all sad. But it's a little hard when Shaun has no phone and doesn't call... HINT HINT.

Sorry to miss the Simpsons extravaganza but plans ran a little later than expected. From the looks of things my stomach thanks me in retrospect. Knowing me I have the audacity to try such things when they're available.

in terms of <3:

in terms of school:

Well if the man at the helm in america keeps things going the ways things are we'll have some comedy midway through the news every night, and the canadian dollar might go up some more. So, I guess that's the bright side of things.

Cheryl and I had a nice pre-halloween party out in a cold field. Thankfully there was a large fire and other people as well. It'd been a long time since I'd seen most of the people there, so it was nice to catch up with my old school buddies. My buddy Bill the Mooninite showed me a cool trick where he can open a non-twist bottle with another non-twist bottle. Since I didn't have an opener, and my "open on a bench" technique spills too much, I went searching for him a multitude of times. A memorable event was when I couldn't find him, and a drunken Evan decided to try to open my bottle for me on a glass table...so then we had two halves a glass table. Another choice memory was Starr, who was dressed as a streaker; his costume got especially authentic once someone threw his underwear into the fire. Later on poor Cheryl got a flying hot ember on her chin which burne d alittle hole in her jacket. The shortly after that the clouds decided to pour down on us, so that's when we decided to split.

Then the actual night of all hallows eve? Well, I'm just happy I didn't have to have my appendix taken out, and I thank Cheryl for sticking with me through all the lovely visits to clinics and lying aorund hoping my abdomen wasn't going to explode. And apparently I have tough veins. Cool beans.

It has been a busy little week. I've been fixing up and moving into a new place. It's a basement suite with a full kitchen, bathroom and shared access to laundry. Cheryl and I have been busy cleaning, adjusting, moving, lifting, and so on and so forth. Yesterday I probably spent 3 hours building ikea furniture and prying a cracked toilet seat off of it's base. Rusted nuts and bolts that are fused together provide a tricky challenge. I actually lost a little chunk of my finger in the process, but thankfully it's only a flesh wound.

I also decided to purchase an additional television for the kitchen. I picked up a beautiful colour television for the rock bottom price of fifteen dollars. Damn right, you heard me. A nice 15 dollar colour tv from Value Village with a lot of funky tuner buttons on the front. I figure I'll just hook up a junky vcr to it and use that for surfing channels past UHF 32.

The swedes are invading my furniture choices. Does anyone know what's up with that weird crayfish festival thing? Is it a really big thing for those northern peoples?

Anyhow, time for hot noodles and honey garlic chicken wings.

Well, I'm monitoring calls at work now. Technically this is a promotion, albeit it works out strangely. My work hours every day is moved up from 7 1/2 hours to 8 hours. Technically I'm supposed to take a lunch but I do that at the end of the day so I can split. Currently I have taken this position as a stretch role (whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean) where I get paid my old salary plus bonuses, which comes out to $11.25 an hour. However, if I take the full position I only get paid $11 an hour. It's really strange how these things work. But the extra half hour of pay a day for staying the same amount of time rounds out the money factor quite nicely for me.

And now that I'm done with that spiel, they've made me work on Sundays. Now, as a phone agent Sundays are wonderful, since the number of calls are exceptionally low. I imagine it's because most of our customers are in the bible belt and are too busy licking Jesus' feet to bother with the interweb for the day, or they assume that business couldn't possibly be running on God's day. For people who have to monitor, and get 15 calls thuroughly documented for members of their team, Sunday is hell. No one is getting calls and you are sitting there constantly waiting for something to show up, hoping and praying for these calls to finally rear their ugly heads.

So, that's what I'm doing.

I guess I should get back to finishing up any memorable stories from Hong Kong.

Cheryl and I's most regular shopping district was probably the streets of Mong Kok... Moung Cock? Not like I have any real idea how to spell it. Anyhow, in this area we'd check out all the street booth were they sell off cheap knock offs and priated goods. I managed to get some cheap games and clothes while encouraging Cheryl to haggle for me. Cheryl, someone who had never before bargained, but also someone who loves to argue, did amazingly well at shaving off the poor merchants' profit margins. More for us, less for them. Since when we were staying with Cheryl's aunt we were in a by far more wealthy part of town, it was nice to go into these more gritty low class areas to get a more balanced sense of the many areas of Hong Kong. Although I'm glad we weren't staying in Mong Kok, thank you. I'd prefer to be "slumming it" than "living it". The beggars there were pretty damned hard core too! Had a blind lady playing a little electronic keyboard that was too quiet to hear over the roar of the crowd, and this other dude with his foot basically rotting off of his leg. It was all split open and pussy white on top of red stretched meaty goodness. I kinda wanted to take a picture with him but I didn't want to embarass cheryl and her parents in front of their friends.

During our stay in Hong Kong it was Sharon's (Cheryl's cousin) birthday! We helped plan a little suprise party for her with a whole large load of her family. Dear god, did they ever have a gigantic ass load of food. Actually, it was all much larger than any ass I had ever seen, as I've never seen an ass coat an entire banquet table. I guess if you sliced it really thin? But I digress; big ass load of food. Everyone chowed down then sang some karaoke and that made it a bit of a wrap.

It really does amaze me how much more strong the sense of family is in Chinese culture. In some ways it seems pretty incredible in terms of the support, dedication and motivation they receive. Of course, on the flip side it also seems to be exceptionally smothering. Freedom, choice and responsibility beyond school is rarely given to the kids, and if they are given it's at a high cost as it would put a damper on the relationship between the child and the parents. Not so much of the touchy feely liberal sense of "Let's try treating our kid like a young adult" and more of the "You're a stupid kid and I know what's best for you. Shut up and do it" . Well, maybe not in such a rude fashion but that's generally the impression I get.

Time to get back to work. Maybe more later.

Oh, right I guess I should mention how my trip went?

3 weeks of fun and games in Hong Kong, well, it was all quite a load of fun and games. I can't quite remember all events nor the precise order of the ones I do remember, so I'll just try to ramble through the various flashes of memory I can dredge up for everyone's enjoyment and my record of recollection.

The first meal I had in the British orient, after a claustraphobically confining 14 hour plane ride, was a chicken melt at Tony Romas. How wonderfully asian I am. I didn't even have any soy sauce for anything during the whole meal, unless some had been accidentally splattered on my food in the kitchen. Then the next morning I got to meet Cheryl's grandparents, aunt, and some butch gay restaurant manager who kept feeling my arms up.

I don't even know that guys name. But everytime I met him at the restaurant he'd test my handshake, squeeze my arm, compare foot sizes (?) and then eventually escalated into making kissy faces at me as I walked by. I'm a fragile man, I'm not used to such attention. And it was Cheryl's grandparents favorite place to eat so we went there quite a few times. What an... interesting experience.

Cheryl's got a 4 year old cousin who has the reputation of being a mouthy violent little thing, I got to meet him and confirm such rumours. But I had a lot of fun goofing around with the little guy and witnessing his incredible hoolahoop skills. I shit you not that kid's got a future in the circus or something. It was pretty funny how well we got along considering we couldn't understand each other at all. He kept calling me "Eric-Jai" which equivicates to "Eric Boy". I guess I'm a side kick.

The housing in Hong Kong is almost always predictably small. Seeing an actual house is very, VERY rare. Just about everything is a conglamerated mass of apartments and you'll rarely see any builds that less than 10 stories tall (unless it's a gas station or something). All that being said, I was really happy that Cheryl's aunt put us up for the whole three weeks. 2 guests in cramped quarters was very generous of them.

We had one day trip for a beach BBQ. Our selected spot was in Stanley at some small part name "Hair Point Bay" or something strange like that. I'm sure it probably made a lot more sense in chinese. The heat at the beach was intense, ad grilling over a BBQ to that and you've a serious case of the sweats. SPF40 sunscreen didn't really do as much as it should have in protecting my skin, but it was all we had there. Most of mine probably washed off anyhow, as I spent a lot of time swimming. The water there was fantastic, it was like swimming in a big warm bathtub. I managed to scoop up a lot of sea cucumbers as well, and spook out Cheryl's cousins with the slimy spurting things. Sea cucumbers are disgusting when they decide to actually shoot out their guts. They ejaculate they long thin sticky strands of junk that stick to anything and is nighh impossible to completely remove from yourself.

I'll continue some other time... work's getting busy.

I've got a trip in the works. And by in the works I mean I have a ticket, well an "e-ticket", that sends me off May 9th to the wonderful wacky world of Hong Kong where I will fight SARS with my left fist of crushing might. That last bit might not be so true but it is looking to be an exciting 3 week trip. I'll be going with Cheryl of course, and we'll spend some time meeting a butt-load (official term) of her relatives and such. Hopefully we'll manage a side trip to Japan as well. Although if we do it will be with her parents and on a guided tour, but that's really the most cost effective way to do so. Maybe we can drag Shaun and Mariko out of hiding once we actually have a set itinerary for this side trip.

That's my little big plan for now. Other than that it's been work, work, work, so that I can actually afford it. I had my first wave of co-worker related guilt the other day. This pseudo-noob was asking me a bunch of stupid questions about the job that I found to be blatantly obvious even when I was in his new position way back when. I quietly mocked him with my more experienced co-workers all day long for his lack of intelligence and thoughtfulness. Then at the end of work he ends up having a customer commendation, and later gives me a ride to the skytrain while thanking me gratiously for all the advice and help I gave him. All in all it was a nice way for me to feel like a royal prick. From now on I think I'll only harp at the stupid and arrogant, then I won't feel so bad.

I am in desperate need of more exercise. This desk job has made me soft and week. That and the monthly potlucks and birthday cakes, it's incredible how much food gets dished out around here. Then I get home and with Cheryl's family dinner time is usually spent at a restaurant at a fairly late time in the evening. Eating out is always greasier than eating at home (unless you just eat butter and microwave dinners or something) and everyone pushes me to finish the food. I'm up to a fairly steady 162, which is an alright weight, but I just need to tone it all out. Hopefully Hong Kong will sweat it out of me. Just have to use my self control a little more around all these mountains of food. Maybe I should just get a pet tape worm or something.

For Valentines day I got Cheryl a fish tank with 4 fish in it. One of the fish has slowly grown into a monster. Not necessarily in size, but in pure psychotic energy. Over the past couple of months he has quietly eliminated the other fish by pounding the snot out of them whenever he feels a little rowdy. I keep having to flush little ragged fish whose tiny bodies have given up the ghost. Makes me feel like the aquatic reaper. On the plus side of things I think Cheryl's getting a little more hardened to the grim realities of fish keeping. Them suckers don't like living as much as we do.

In other news, I shaved my pits for the first time. Well, I got Cheryl to help me. It's not so bad, it just gets a little itchy now and then.

Okay, they took our antannaes away. But the TV at my station has been jury rigged with a piece of wire stapled to the wall next to the window. Well, I don't even really use it very much but at least I have the option for television.

I have one of those ridiculous headaches that just won't go away. I think I've had it for about 2 days now. It happened when my dad and I had a big spazz fest. Since then, ooog my brain. At least we've managed to smooth things over.

Today we'll be booking my ticket to HongKong. Yesterday I finished filling out my time off sheet for work. Things are starting to look up in that department. Hopefully I can also save up enough for a side trip to Japan. It'd probably end up being on a tour (since that's cheaper), but I'll toss up my itinerary here at some point in case my two jappo compatriotes wish to join us at some major spot along the way.

Damn, the government took $153 out of my paycheque. How lovely.

Oh how the value of my Canada Pension Plan rises. I think I'd be able to live for about 1 month off of it by now.

Speaking of the elderly, I need to go see Bubba Ho-Tepp. I will find the time and rhyme in which to do so.

I'm so glad I got all that stuff done that I mentioned in my last post. It had been slowly building for ages and pinching it off just felt like finally finishing off a massive shit. I'm sure that analogy will encourage a great many visitors won't it?

We recently got attentaes at work, now between calls we can spend our time searching for television reception. I guess having an illegal cable hookup for 40 televisions would wear a little thin after a while. So far the lineup today has been Bespelled, Starwars, Simpsonsx2 and Mighty Ducks. Elizabeth Hurley is a milf isn't she?

Cheryl's been sending me pictures of our hamster's penis while I'm at work. She has strange ways of trying to entice me back home. It kinda looks more like a belly button than a wang. No offence to any of you out there with really stubby penises, or those who have lovers with really stubby penises.

Been trying to work out details for a possible trip to Hong Kong and Japan for Cheryl and I. Figuring out finances, loans, and time off is a bit of trouble but I think it could be managed. It means I don't get to get a cheap car.... but I don't think I could afford one anyhow if I manage to get into UBC for the fall. Part time job? We'll wait and see how that all goes.

I've been trying to use my free time between calls at work a little more productively. So I've been working a little more on a PHP/MYSQL backend for a new edition of sensitivitycheck. We'll see how that turns out. I just want something that I can update with out too much hassle.... which in turn means I have a lot of hassle in setting it up. Woohoo.

Happy with the file browser I made though.... makes uploading remotely a little more easy. And I'm currently converting the uncut version of ichi the killer into an SVCD format. I will have my ichi in his fullest glory.

Other than that, I think I need to start drawing more. I've been having one of those creative hibernations. They happen now and then, the only solution is to squash them mercilessly. Now I just have to find out who "them" is. Perhaps it's all this silly peace and contentment, but not like I'd like to give that up.

Guess I need to find some adventure....
Maybe forcibly euthanizing some of the idiot geriatrics who call me.

Enough of the nerdspeak.

When you start pissing blood, don't panic.

I made that silly mistake, and then eventually after a load of worrying I remembered that I had just eaten beets for dinner.

Those funny little things dye your urine magenta.

I guess it'd be funny to feed them to someone who doesn't know about this effect.

Other than that... here's to hoping I get promoted to supervisor. If I were there in person I'd probably lift a glass or something.

I've got a head cold! The finest of colds. I wonder why they call it a head cold? Not like anyone ever has a leg cold or anything. I guess to distinguish it from chest colds.... not that there's all that much difference between the two. When something drips out of your sinuses it gets down to your lungs anyhow.

Then it makes some marvelous butter.

I thought I'd write about more... but, no.
